Re: Christopher Lee Live (DVD)
Hi all,
An absolutely brilliant notion for a DVD!! Wow, can Christmas get any better than this!? We have many wonderful moments to look forward to:
- Return of the King, with the long awaited scene/s of Saruman rightfully restored: they should never have been omitted to begin with. I, along with thousands of others, subscribed to the online petition for the restoration of Saruman to the cinematic release, but, alas, to no avail. As a consequence, not only did I categorically refuse to go to the cinema to watch Peter Jackson's final instalment (as, I know, did others), it also ruined my Christmas, as I had been looking forward to it all year. It was an absolute disgrace to have treated Mr Lee's hard work and outstanding contribution to Lord of the Rings in such a deplorable manner (not to mention Brad Dourif and the others who were also cut from the final release). You simply do NOT cut out scenes and characters which are integral to the storyline and expect conscientious viewers to take it lightly. I have had to wait for an entire year (so two altogether!! ), but watching Return of the King now will feel all the more worthwhile in the knowledge that I kept true to my opinion of the whole sorry affair (call me old-fashioned, but I happen to believe in principles.)
- Christopher Lee's Fireside Tales: this BBC Radio 2 broadcast is sure to bring a smile to my face and a shiver or two down my spine. A wonderful successor to Mr Lee's excellent Ghost Stories For Christmas a few years ago, and one which I await eagerly!
And now Christopher Lee Live!! I am sure that I am going to enjoy this DVD thoroughly. As John Rhys-Davies quite rightly notes in his introduction to The Making of a Legend DVD, which I am still in the process of watching, now that Sir Peter Ustinov is sadly no longer with us (sorely missed, may God bless him), Mr Lee is the raconteur par excellence among actors today ("he is without competition," to quote Rhys-Davies.)
I have put my order in for this fine-sounding DVD, and I will finish watching TMOAL until this one arrives. And so many more wonderful works to look forward to, on television over Christmas, on upcoming films (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Corpse Bride, Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby...), and goodness knows what else Mr Lee will be involved in for the future. Long may he continue to delight his fans and the public!!
With kindest regards,
poeraven
