Anchor Bay Entertainment will be releasing on the 25th of June, To The Devil a Daughter on DVD Region 1.

At present there are no announcements on which extras to expect, but we are sure Mr Lee will be more that willing to participate in any audio commentary.

Well, there better be something extra added to the dvd..because it is a terrible film..... very ugly, grainy, and the non ending !!
Lee's comments will at least make it interesting....
maybe some sample script pages of the original ending would help....

of course, Ms Kinski's nude scenes were a plus, but can only go so far....

devil worshippers had a hard time at this point in hammer films- what with DRACULA giving them plague in SATANIC RITES & then bursting into flames in churches here.....

sort of makes you wonder why anyone would sign up...must be the dental plan..

Too far, maybe. Considering she was only 14/15 at the time, these full frontal nude scenes are a little troublesome.

I liked the film a lot and was only dissapointed by the ending.

I do not care for Kinski's nude scenes, she's a child.

We had a prolonged discussion about this on another list last year. After carefull research a conclusion was draw that Miss Kinski was 17-19, depending on the source, at the time TTDAD was filmed. They could not have shown that in the States had she been a minor. And I would bet a large sum of money they couldn't have shown it in the UK either. As a topper, if she had been a minor when that was shot, the scenes could not be included on any DVD or video tape manufactored and/or sold in the States today.

Well, according to the IMDB, Kinski was born in 1960, which would make her 15 or 16 when TTDAD was filmed. I'll agree not as extreme as 14 or 15, but still troublesome.

i agree about the nude scenes they would be hard to watch, never seen the flim just parts of it, when that baby came out that was it for me, even though i knew it was fake, mr lee is always great though. i would watch the devil rides out.

Finally thought on the subject:

Brooke Shields was 13 when Louis Malle's Pretty Baby was released in 1978. That film contained explicit full-frontal nudity of a minor and is readily available on VHS in the States today.

I hope no one has gotten the impression it's because of the nudity I can't wait. It's NOT. It's Mr Lee and it's a film that scared me a lot the first time I watched it. I had to turn down the volume at the birth scene because it was so frightnening. And too see him smile as the baby comes out is just to scary.

That's actually one of my favorite parts in the movie. Laughing out loud
Mr Lee uses the same smile as Flay in Gormeghast after the
battle with Swelter, when he falls to his death. :1devil:

I will have to watch the film again, but i can recall being terribly disappointed by the look of the film, and feeling it was most unlike a Hammer film ...

as for the nudity, my comment was not meant as support of kiddie porn(very much against it) but that nudity of any sort was thrown in just to be a selling point .... if the film hada better story , it woldnt have needed such a scene...

The idea of censoring a film for any reason bothers me, though i think taste should be used.......

as to the age of the subject-- is the nudirty being used exploitively, or is it for an artistic reason....

an episode of BOSTON PUBLIC (an American tv series) addressed this--- a student took a photo of two children frolicking who happened to be nude-- he wanted to show innocence-- but was decried as a child pornographer...

things were alot different in the 70s. I remeber Ted Nugent used to sleep with a lot of young under age girls and if he did that once today he would be in trouble and , deservedlly so. This is a movie from the 70s a different era were the world had different views. Im not condoning anything but she was a teenager and at the time wasnt a big deal ...I mean it was a major picture from a major studio and not some sleazy film. there are constant diaper commercials showing naked babys even on the super clean full house ive seen a babys bottom . I really dont consider a child pornography situation here. Obviously its a thin line i dont want to start a big thing at all. I could live without the scenes if that is a decision made but i really dont see the seriousness in this issue . its a serious problem that hurts many lives but i personally dont see to the Devil a Daughter film being thrown into this type of situation

It is part of human nature- CECIL B DEMILLE had his cake & ate it too by doing RELIGIOUS & HISTORICAL subjects which would allow women to wear as little as possible while claiming moral themes.

In BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW , there is a similar scene of youthful temptation , which too is rejected by the minister in that film.

However, let us not obsess on this point due to a rather flip remark on my part attempting humor.....

let us discuss Mr lee's work in these films...

You're quite right. This film, like most, is a document of its time. The 1970s were a more sexually permissive and experimental era than the present; and much that was accepted or tolerated then would be condemned today. Good or bad, better or worse? I don't know. But it is interesting how film reflects changes in societal attitudes.

Agreed. It is also intressting to see the political views of that time when everyone was against nuclear power plants and listend to prog music and all sorth of things. I hope they include the deleted original ending as a special feature on the DVD. If you remember there was another ending filmed according to Mr Lees biography but for some reason it was deleted and the ending that's there now is quite good. I wonder what the film would have been like if they didn't delete the original ending that was filmed first.

Doc, I agree as it looks to me like we lost the "Sexual Revolution". However, as a surviving front line soldier from that war with a few battle scars let me say that was the most fun I ever had losing a war.

(My "opposition" during the revolution managed to capture two houses, three automobiles and some bank accounts. But I survived!) Next time I get the urge to see some "action" by entering into marriage, I would be better off to just find a woman who hates me and give her a house and a car. :1devil:

That way, you offer equal rights, no discrimination !! ...lol...

The film clearly shows that evil is not pretty. The horror on the followers' faces as the ritual comes to "fruition" (in the ghastly birth) shows that line between fantasy and reality quite well. Really disturbing film.
