John,
I was pleased to see that report at DVD Drive-In too, and agree that HOUND is indeed an underrated Hammer Film. As a Sherlock Holmes enthusiast, I have a soft spot for it, particularly as it was the first Sherlock Holmes film ever to be shot in colour.
As to Twins of Evil, I'm really not sure what the status is, or even if it was released on Laser Disc at any time, but I expect that someone else here may be able to enlighten us further on that topic, although preferably in the Other Films and Co-Stars Forum, rather than here in this Forum. I happen to have the mediocre old Vid America NTSC video release of it myself, and while I find it a fairly entertaining film, it isn't a patch on the material that Hammer released between say 1957-1966, but that is, of course, only my opinion. Peter Cushing was, as always, fascinating to watch.
Cheers!
Hello to Charles and the gang from this great site dedicated to Christopher Lee. Thanks for posting some news from my site, DVD Drive-In (www.dvddrive-in.com). I assure you that yes, MGM will be releasing HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES next year and there will indeed be a video interview with Christopher Lee. This is set in stone!
If you don't know by now, Home Theater Forum's chat with a rep from Warner Home Video has been delayed due technical problems (a new date will be this Tuesday or the next). Even though there was no recorded chat, I can assure you that dozens of Christopher Lee/Hammer fans were screaming (through their keyboard keys) for Warner to get these films on DVD, stuff like CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, HORROR OF DRACULA, DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, SHE, TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA, DRACULA A.D. 1972, etc. It's sad that Warner has no or very little (and I mean very little!) interest in releasing these on DVD, so we must at least voice our opinions on the upcoming chat (www.hometheaterforum.com).
They indeed released the 1959 MUMMY, but there's still more to go. Charles, thanks again for mentioning my site, and I will keep checking in here on a regular basis. Please keep up the great work, and I plan to have a review of the DVD for THEATRE OF DEATH posted on my site soon, as well as more Christopher Lee DVD news as it comes in.
All the best,
George Reis
DVD Drive-In (www.dvddrive-in.com)
I'd just like to welcome George Reis to Mr. Lee's website!
For those that don't know, George Reis is the man behind DVD Drive-In, which is one of the best horror DVD review sites around today. I first found George's site when it was recommended to me by fellow Peter Cushing fan Chris Gullo, the webmaster of The Peter Cushing Museum and Association. As a result, DVD Drive-In is now one of my regular haunts for DVD info.
So, once again, a warm welcome to George and much thanks for the info on The Hound DVD!
Cheers!
Charles, thanks for the warm welcome and thanks for the compliments about my site, the feeling is mutual about this one! Just looked at THE MUMMY DVD and I plan to do a review very soon. I have good word that MGM will be releasing another Christopher Lee title on DVD in 2002, but I can't say what it is just yet. Stay tuned...
Speaking of the man's films, has anyone ever seen CASTLE OF THE LIVING DEAD? I find this to be an nice eerie Italian production, and it used to show up on New York's Channel 11 late at night when I was a lad in the 70s. I would love to see some of Lee's Italian and German films from the 60s come to DVD!

Just for the record, MGM's DVD release of HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES will NOT be part of their "Midnite Movies" series, but rather "Vintage Classics" I believe. This should appear early in 2002, while the other Midnite titles will appear later in the year.

I'm not sure if the following will be allowed in this section, but to all UK Christopher Lee fans who are impatient for the region 2 DVDs to arrive (which could be months) and aren't able to watch region 1 dvds the place on the net for reasonable to cheap multi-regioned players (where I bought mine) they also auto-switch to different regions is www.techtronics.com their prices also include a guarantee!

This is great news, i too am a great fan of" The hound of the Baskervilles".
Did any of you catch the interview mr. Lee has done for the "Theatre of death" dvd?
As always, it's a real must to be able to listen to him relating different experiences from his illustrious film carreer.
I agree with Charles that George's site "dvd drive in" is fabulous.
I have been visiting that site for a while now, and i even use George's reviews as references when i am not sure about a new release.
I hope we will see more and more DVD releases this year of other classic titles in the same "repertoire" as Hound of the baskervilles"
take care all!

Re:
Yes, Me too, I love this film, and I think "The Hound of the Baskervilles" is a wonderful film, in which Sir Christopher Lee had a very great role, that He did interpret very well, as Peter Cushing, also did. I love this couple a great deal and among my DVD's I love the films in which Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing work together. These are my favourite films that I love watching and watching again very often, the films in which they are together.
Re:
Hello George,
Can you please tell me if the following DVD are available in Great Britain? I am desperately looking for :
- HORROR OF DRACULA
- THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN
- THE MUMMY
- IN SEARCH OF DRACULA
and some others, but over here in Italy I am unable to find them. I would do everything to be able to get them.
Mirella Giurco - Trieste, Italy
IN SEARCH OF DRACULA is
IN SEARCH OF DRACULA is availabe in DVD in Germany. The German dubbing/voice-ocer is atrocious, but of course that's hardly the reason for obtaining it. It also has the English track, though. Look here: http://www.amazon.de/Auf-den-Spuren-Draculas-Christopher/dp/B001M4LUXE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302316574&sr=8-1

The latest news from this year
Charles, this is great news. Hound is one of the most underrated of Hammer's films IMO; looking forward to a DVD version.
(I work at an educational institute which, among other things, has a screening room for DVD and video...and I'm the guy in charge.)
Question for you:
Do you have any idea whether Hammer's Twins of Evil, pne of the celebrated "Karnstein" films, is available at all in any shape or form. I'd love to find it--it's written about by many critics as one of the best of Hammer's last years.
Best,
John F
