Hey all! I don't usually come to this forum, but here goes:

For some reason, I've just had the urge to watch a few movies with Vincent Price in - it has come to me that I haven't actually seen him in hardly anything, except Edward Scissorhands, and I have fond childhood memories of hearing his voice as Professor Ratigan in the Disney Basil the Great Mouse Detective film, but that's it!

Fortunately, coinciding with this 'urge', I've found that House of Wax and Masque of the Red Death are both on next week, and both have got pretty good reviews in my mum's TV guide, but I just wondered if anyone else here, more in the know, could recommend me a few other films to try and see?

I guess I just want to educate myself a bit more in these fine actors. Smile

here's some good ones too. everyone seems to forget THE PIT AND THE PENDULAN from 1961. The Fly from 1958. an the sequel isn't that bad either. look him up at internet movie data base for a list of his films. i'm guesing he did about 200 or so films. although i can't be sure of that. so don't qoute me on that.

Hey Jurious,

You should see House of Wax, that's a really good movie. Another movie you should try watching is the Pit and the Pendulum, that's another good Vincent Price movie.

The Witchfynder General and The Fly are my favorites from the ones i've seen with Mr Price.

Ala, they have allready been mentioned.
Also reccomended imo are the Dr Phibes movies.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Dr Phibes Will Rise Again. (Peter Cushing has a small role in this one)

Vincent was excellent in comic roles - A COMEDY OF TERRORS, THE RAVEN, TALES OF TERROR spring to mind. I recently saw the DVD of CHAMPAGNE FOR CAESAR - a great film.

One of his best comic roles must be that of Egghead in BATMAN - his teaming with Anne Baxter as Olga was hilarious

yea i saw that one too. it is indeed one of his better films a CLASSIC! it's hard to believe that of all these horror movies he did in that era he still was an unknown to the american public according to his daughters book. an it wasn't untill the Poe pictures that he became the cult figure he is today.

What? Discussing the best of Vincent Price and no one mentions The Ten Commandments? Surely you jest!

Mr. Price's appearance in the best epic of all time certainly merits mention. If you haven't seen it because you think you might be turned off by the religious aspects, forget about it. Considering that this is termed a 'biblical epic', religion is secondary and spectacle is everything. Incredible matte paintings, huge sets, great special effects and a cast of literally thousands, this is one brilliant piece of film that defines the term 'epic'. It just doesn't get any bigger or better than this, and Vincent Price as the devious Baka is smack-dab in the middle of this Cecil B. DeMille classic! Dare I say it? VP's scenes with Edward G. Robinson are...Priceless!

Cheers!

it's funny that U mention that one cause i want just talking about it tonight with a friend of mine. i was telling him how good of a movie that is. here's a couple more, the 3 musketeers from 1948.
the mad magicain i know it's spelled wrong from 1954. an one which wasn't that bad of flix well if ya like bob hope u migh like it. casanova's big night i think it's called Vincent price has an uncred cameo at the begining of it. an THE BAT from 1959. a good mystery.

I'd completely forgotten about Vincent Price's appearance in Casanova's Big Night. Stumbled across it years ago when the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) used to broadcast great classic (and not so classic) black and white flicks at midnight every night of the week. I miss those days. Charming film. If I recall correctly, Price was Casanova and Bob Hope was his tailor. Goofy and fun all the way through, with numerous cameo's by some horror greats including Basil Rathbone, Lon Chaney Jr. and John Carradine.

Thanks for reminding me of it, I must go dig up a copy.

Cheers!

Vincent Price has been in a good number of memorable films. Not only horror movies but also in die hard classics films. With Easter coming I will be looking forward in watching both The Song of Bernadette, and the 10 Commandments. They show those films on tv every year at this time.

your welcome for reminding you. now at the time i watched casonova's big night i could not stand bob hope an so i was expecting the worst from it. buuuuuuuuuut i was quite surprised on how good that movie is. since bob hope is turning 100 this year or he may have turned it a couple years ago since no one knows his true age! anyways what i am trying to say is since he's turning 100 this year perhaps they will release it to dvd? i hope so. cuz i know that's one i am picking up. here's another good price film House of seven gables from 1940. bagdad from 1949. an if u want a bad price film if u are desperate to watch one if u can find a copy of it Scavanger hunt from 1979. has a great cast an all but it is one of his worst. that't only if u want to quence your curiosity. for good did anyone mention the classic Laura from 1946?

Yes, The Fly is great. So is Theatre of Blood, but with that one, you'll feel quite sorry for poor Robert Morley and his doggies....Sad

Wow, what a list! I'm gonna have quite some fun finding all these films!

I have seen the Song of Bernadette, but that was some time ago, when I was around 13, so I wouldn't have recognised Vincent Price then. I wouldn't have known who Christopher Lee was then, either!

I recorded House of Wax last night, so hopefully I'll have time to watch that later. I can't wait! Plus, The Masque of the Red Death is on tomorrow night! It's gonna be a good weekend to sit in and just watch these films! Laughing out loud

i beg to differ V. Price has done some bad ones an so has C.Lee.
for vincent price dr. goldfoot an the girl bombs isnt' that the sequel? another one he did at the time is one called THE JACKAL a terrible westeren it was so bad it never even was released into theatres! it's on dvd cuz i have it an it's a western too. scavenger hunt, Elizabeth an the essex i think it's called that's a bad one i thought it was boring an wanted it to end. percy's progress is even worse. or as some would call it IT'S NOT THE SIZE THAT COUNTS an yea that is what it's about. an as for C.Lee he's done some bad ones as well. THE CURSE 3 is one though it is better than the 1 or 2nd it's still a bad film. the man who could cheat death though some might like it i really didn't care for it. but it was better than this one MY uncle is a vampire. that was such a bad film it's not even funny. circle of iron was also just plain bad.as was captain america pt 2. bear island was just plain dull an it was too slow of a film. eye for an eye wasn't that great either mr. Lee was hardly in that one massarati an the brain was so bad that i i was dying to push fastforward just for it to end. an finally THE STUPIDS that was so bad i couldn't even finish watching it thank god mr. Lee only had a cameo in it an not a big part in it. i know i well kinda went overboard but those are the ones i thought were just plain terrible an should NOT have been made i know there's more but i haven't seen them yet.or can't remember. did i forget any? i can' t answer for Howling 2 cuz it's been about 5 or 10 yrs since i last saw it. a lot of people didn't like that one.

Well I like every thing they done, where bad or not:D

I watched them when most of them came out and at that time they was great.

Just to see the three great man on TV or pictures was all I needed I didn't care what was said if I liked it that was good enough for me, and I couldn't fine any faults with them.

Looking back now you can see how bad some of them was but in they time they was great! Tongue

No its ok, I think we should all be entitled to our opinion, to be honest I like to make my own mind up what ever people say.

I have the Howling 2 but have not had time to veiw it, I know its had bad reviews here, but like I said I like to make my own mind up, and I would still buy it coz Mr. Lee in it.

good i am glad u feel that way. only reason said something is
cuz i've read some of these threads in the past where someone
says something an it they have a big arugement over it an juan
has to step in well when he use to come on an say something.
i'd buy howling 2 also. i am dying 2 see i think the german version
i could be wrong on that though there is a version i forget from
which country that has more footage in it an the word bitch is in it i forget the name of it though. a good c.lee movie to see least
i think so is Arabian adventure from 1979. that one i liked. an it even has peter cushing in it:D he's got a small role in it. too bad it's not avaliable on video or dvd.:furious: but i agree every one should have their own opion to each his or her own.

And there is, of course, a diffrence between a bad film and a bad actor. Bad actors can be in good films, and good actors can be in bad. It's life. Smile

I liked House of Wax, anyway - it was different and original, and I recommend for anyone who hasn't seen it to check it out. It's Masque of the Red Death tonight... Laughing out loud

You have a lot of catching up to do, and a lot of films to see, but I hope you find why we love Mr. Price as well.

Did you know that Mr. Price was a very good cook as well, I have a few recipe books by him, and I have tried many of them.
If you ever see Mr. Price cooking on TV you would of seen how funny he was, he was always mucking around, Mr. price did a few recipes with his wife on TV as well if I remenber right it was very funny, but he made some lovely meals.
