Is it just me, or are there other women out there who think that Christopher Lee as Saruman is, like, totally Godly? He's dead sexy! Must be the silvery hair and deeeeep voice. :1devil: Don't be shy now ladies!

LOL - well, you got straight to the point! And, believe me, most people here aren't shy - why should we be? To be honest, I prefer him as Dooku as far as attraction goes (haven't told my family exactly how much I like him... families don't understand! Tongue) - but I love his voice in all his roles. He has a great voice, who can deny it?

Actually, I don't much care for the long white hair and beard. It's not a good look in my opinion.

HAHA--that's the funniest thing Alfonso. Jealous of the feminine adoration! Heh heh. I feel the same way buddy! I get about as much attention from women as a midget clown. I can't understand why they find Mr. Lee's Saruman sexy, but I guess it goes along with that Sean Connery thing too. My mother once told me she thought he was extremely sexy, and he's in his 70s! My sister once said the same thing, and she was a teenager at the time! Imagine that, a 15 year old thinking a 70 year old man was "hot."

Sage? Somehow, I don't think it's Mr. Lee's wisdom that's operative factor here.Laughing out loud

Well, my young friend, look at it this way. . . All that means is that in 50 years (for you) or 40 years (for me) there may be some hope (for us.) Wink

... though it was pretty funny at a different board I frequent where the girls and women were cooing over Legolas and Aragorn (mostly). When I said, 'Well, what about Saruman?' you could practically *hear* the baffled silence. 'I think you have him to yourself,' a poster said. Which I did-- at least over *there*...

Think about it. . . men are "distinguished" with age and women, well, we're just OLD.

Yesssss, the estrogen tide is turning! WEG. Hey, don't gripe, you look just fine...even in the sixteen crappy colors I have on my puter right now. But...to me...seeing two powerful wizards duking it out with their staff/wands is to a woman (the strange ones like me, anyhow), what female mud wrestling is to men! Hee!!! Bring it ON!!

Actually, before LotR, I never knew who CL was (ducks, and runs for cover), but as Saruman, he sure got my attention, no mistake there! Grrr! Who is Dooku anyhow? And hey...I can relate to the 'family' thing. I was in the midst of posting here on this topic when my husband walked in. I panicked and clicked to my home page, and we got into a HUGE argument...he thought I was talking to a guy in chat, and I decided I would rather weather the accusations than endure watching him rotfl his a$$ off. I told him I was posting at a fan site, but didn't dare show him what about. I'd never be able to watch LotR in peace again!!! I'd probably be too embarrased to watch it in his presence at any rate...he'd be laughing every time Saruman appeared, and playfully punching my arm whilst I turn several nasty shades of red. Ugh!

You know, it's a good thing he created a host of Uruk-Hai Orcs instead of an army of fembots, or he'd never accomplish a thing!

*gasps* Are you joking or being serious? Tongue Heh - well, if you're not joking, then Dooku's the latest addition to the line of Sith Lords in the Star Wars saga. And a very welcome addition, who can kick serious ass in a lightsabre duel, at that. Wink

Well, I'm only 17 (nearly 18) so you can guess my reason for shying away... Wink I don't talk much or well with my parents or sisters anyway. The Internet is my release, and where I can find peeps to identify with.

yes, unfortunately, I'm serious...although from your handle, I guessed he might be a 'badass, wicked cool dude' from the next Star Wars segment.  Have not seen it yet, but you can bet I'll be keeping an eye open for Dooku NOW

Well, I'm 'only'  36 (nearly 37), so I have no excuse for this silly swooning business anyhow.  The graphics card on my computer isn't working, so I can only see things in 16 'vibrant' colors right now  , so I thought you were older than that.  It does my heart well to see a youngster like yourself 'into' an older dude. ! Allow me to respond to the above statements by quoting two pop-culture references:

"Breakin' rocks in the hot sun. I fought the Law and the Law won. I fought the Law and the Law won."

and

"Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! Danger!"

Aw, come on guys, what's a little estrogen between friends?! Yup, he'll always have that special effect on us. Personally, despite peaking sexually at 17, a man isn't really interesting until he's about 40-50 years old. It just takes them longer to grow-up, and consider their hearts as well as their loins! Anyway, Mr. Lee is very taken, so we'll just have to save our longings for you other lucky chaps!Wink

Alright, in another 8 1/2 years and I'm going to be interesting. Laughing out loud

Anyways all these discussions of Mr. Lee's affect on women remind me of the old saying " Women want him and men want to be him!" Like I said in a different thread, manly men like Mr.Lee and Sean Connery are running out in hollywood. None of the younger movie stars could hold a candle to the older movie stars. Hollywood is running out of actors that both men and women can admire (in different ways of course). Were being invaded by the Leo's and the Ben's. I shudder at the thought.

Agreed there Rob. This is sooo sad because weather they like it or not they are seen as pieces of meat rather than good actors for some members of the public not all. But there's one actor who realy has quality and does a good job still and proves he can do variations and that is Brad Pitt.

Funny enough I have a friend who worked with Brad Pitt in the movie Cool World. He said that Brad was the perfect gentleman and a total professional. But he said that the other star on the movie was a pain where you can't put a window and it wasn't Gabriel Byrne (hint, hint).

Joakim has made an excellent point.
Thankfully, Brad Pitt and a handful of other male actors considered almost more handsome than talented (such as Johnny Depp and Jude Law) aren't afraid to take unconventional roles and grow as actors. They appear to have very little vanity when it comes to their craft and are not afraid of makeup or "not looking like themselves" for a role. The ones I'm sick of are the actors who are only interested in being pretty.
I talked with my mom about this once after Fight Club came out and Brad Pitt was discussing this very thing in an article. Apparently it's been going on much longer than our current pop culture. Robert Redford and Paul Newman, she says, had a difficult time being taken seriously because they were "too good-looking."
I'd rather go to a film to see talented actors (who may not be terribly good-looking) rather than untalented but good-looking actors any day.
Bit off topic, I know. Just wanted to respond.

*Sigh* A gal can't have a bit of innocent fun anymore, can she? No need to take all this seriously, after all, all it really amounts to is text on a screen boys...Well, maybe we should all be kind now and put the axe to this thread since some folks have to wax all serious and stuff. After thousands of years of females being objectified in this pathetic patriarchal society, we're just cashing in all the karma chips we've accumulated. One bad turn deserves another.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with women being attracted to men like Mr.Lee. My thing was that Hollywood is running out of Manly Men. There isn't a guy here who hasn't fallen in love with a women because of their talents and looks. Truth be told they way most girls feel about Mr.Lee is how I felt for Audrey Hepburn. She seemed like a cool woman. Hollywood is also running out of these types of actresses. It makes me shiver when people compare Julia Roberts to her. Thats just not right!

True. Seems like the last actress who I thought was as interesting as she was attractive was Emma Thompson.

I think you're right. And I think the reason is that films are being marketed now -- almost entirely -- to an adolescent audience. Thus, the 'stars' the studios seek to advance or promote refelct that. Keep in mind, though, that this applies to actresses as well. You mention the dearth of 'manlymen' in Holloywood. True, but when was the last time you saw a 'real woman?' J. Lo? Rose McGowan? Whatever 'charms' these actresses have, they hardly represent flesh and blood women.

On the other hand, there are some actors who have broken through the pretty boy image and have begun to truly distinguish themselves. Johnny Depp is a case in point.
