I thought the fim was great and for the most part faithful to the book. Lee was one of the most powerful actors in the film - exuded a genuine sense of menace/power/evil. Excellent set.
Thought of The Devil Rides Out and the character of the Duc de Richlieu. Both characters 'in control'; working for or against the forces of good or evil; total worlds: battling with something beyond their full understanding or power; placed in situations where they are exposed to physical and/or spiritual danger. Also Gorhmenghast (esp.) and The Legend of Sleep Hollow.
Any views on this?
Minor crit- my own view.
The Hobbits were too cute/sweet!
A little too brightly lit- gave it an 'unreal' quality. Would have prefered the film to be, overall, lit a little darker...contrasts between light and dark in the film would have been more even.
Other creatures in this living, breathing world? saw few insects; bugs etc and only when part of the plot setting/development- not in the background of the film as it were.
