Just curious...because I heard him say in his birthday wav file that "The Bible says we have three score and ten years...and I've gone 10 yrs past that, so I'm very grateful."

Maybe he just knows the Bible in a historical sense and I'm reading too far into it.

later!

I recall reading about him being an altar server in an AngloCatholic Church when he was young, and I wouldn't doubt at all that he was raised with some religion. He knows a great deal about many faiths and philosophies, and his spiritual views most likely reflect a less dogmatic point of view. I think he answered a question about religion on the audio Q & A section of the Multimedia files.

Thank you Alfonso for posting that link. The more I hear Mr. Lee talk about any issue the more impressed I am with the wide, varied knowledge base he clearly has! Not many actors can come off sounding so scholarly on so many subjects. He is precisely correct about the Jewish Kaddish being in Aramaic and not Hebrew, I'll vouch for that as a practicing Jew! Not a piece of knowledge I'd expect everyone to know by far. He is correct in translating out Jesus' name to Yehoshua bar Yosef too ("bar" being Aramaic for "son of") It is gratifying to know that an actor I have chosen to learn more about in depth is so intelligant and well spoken. I rarely care to know too much about actors I enjoy because on closer inspection they turn out to be airheads or worse. Mr. Lee does not disappoint, he only impresses me more and more. Smile

I believe if Mr. Lee were to read the Bible to some unbelievers, they would convert!!! I'm extremely pleased to know that he has such a broad vision of religion - too many narrow minded people around these days.

Well what captured me about his comments was the fact that it seemed devoid of mentioning RELIGION. His statement about believing in "One God" seemed to weasel it's way around any form of religion. Which I think is fantastic. Man-made factions have always been and always will be binding; and I refuse to adhere to a belief system that makes me feel bad about myself. Just a thought...

I would be very interested in hearing Mr. Lee's thoughts on religion and spirituality, but it seems as if the link that Alfonso provided has moved or vanished. Does anyone know if it will be available again? Or, if not, can anyone elaborate on what he said?

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

Mr. Lee did do a few film witht he bible. I don't think you can judge a man by his rules in filsm (unlless some guy runs around screaming "I'm a satanest woohoo). He probably has some belief system...I thought I heard once he was of the Church of England or somthing.

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

Hi, FYI about some of the archived forums.

Unfortunately as useful as the internet is for obtaining information, cyberspace is not a permanent source. Websites are changed, abandoned and updated, so that what was applicable 4 years ago or yesterday, may not be today.

When I first started posting, I posted a comment and the link, but after spending time in the archives I realized that a bit more information needed to be put in the post due to the possibility that the link may not work in the future.

I can not answer your question, but maybe some of the 'oldtimers' here, remember what the link was about....

Cheers,:itsme:

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

No doubt about it: one of the most well-read, well-rounded, and incredibly intelligent people you'll ever know. Christopher had wall-to-wall bookshelves, all through the living room, the hallway...he was fond of every subject. When I moved his books that one year, I remember biographies, histories, fiction, you name it, he had it, and he'd read every one.

He told me he'd read every last word.."just the last word".:hahaha: :alberteinYeah, right.

He is a sponge when it comes to knowledge, and of course able to remember whole segments of dialogue (remember the Wicker Man scene with the snail, him having to learn the poem in but minutes, and he got it on the first take before the crew lost the lighting?). He could discuss anything with you, and he listened to what you had to say. He is open-minded to all beliefs, and his spiritual openness affected me profoundly. I used to call him Professor Lee when he'd pull out a book, put on his glasses, and read a passage to me, and elaborate on how it affected him. I frankly think that is what keeps him eternally young: not only does he keep working, he keeps studying.

If I learned anything from him, it was to constantly keep reading, keep absorbing information, never shut down with a stagnant opinion that kept you from growing. Especially if you chose to disagree with Christopher Lee...that's like facing a tiger with a Q-Tip. Very one-sided. :embarasse

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

Personally I think it's good to read from other beliefs. Just so I can be educated on other ideas. I don't mind picking up a jewish book or a muslem book but I will never read a book by a person from the oucult. An open mind will eventually have to "shut on somthing solid". I simply mean sooner or later someone needs to come up with some truth...then again it really depends on how you define "open mind". It could mean you listen to other people...it's called dialougue. But dialogue doesn't always mean you give up your idea...today "open your mind" can sometimes be taken as relativeism, which looking at science and math, is illogcal and a lazy way at looking at life.
Mr. Lee is wise man. He has proformed in "John Paul II" and "In the Beginning" but if that was just for entertainment...it's anyones guess. But if he were feircy athiest, he probably would not be in those films.

And he's no Wicker Man or anything...unless he was secretly offering up burned photos of Tolkin00a man who ihe and I have been very fond of...Tolin's catholic btw)

Regardless of religion, he still a great actor. I mean I enjoyed "Catcher in the Rye", but I hardly doubt I would want to talk with the arthur over tea///he does soem scary things like date girls who are 19 (or he did when he was 58...I am rambleing now lol)

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

Mr. Lee is wonderfully knowledgeable on so many things. I admire that quality in anybody, but I adore him for it.

What is really lovely is that he does stay open to most groups and ideas. Many at his maturity have a hard time with that it seems, in my experience.
I can only say I have ever had one disagreement with his beliefs and that is in his ideas of groups such those who practice witchcraft. I know that sounds pretty odd, as just the word brings malevolent pictures of the Devil and sorts, but he tends to do what many do, which is bunch it together with cults and satanic worship -which it is neither, when practiced by a person with knowledge of the law of what you put out comes back a hundred times. They are lovers of nature, not of evil.

But otherwise he is very well-informed on just about everything and incredible to listen to. Had he not become an actor, he could have become a swell professor!

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

Um, did I understand what your saying? I thought you said the ocult loves nature not evil? Most people do that sort of thing have no idea what they are doing, but they certainly have no respect for nature if they just go strictly by emtoion. Emotion is a gift of God, but so si reason and logic. The truble with the Wicker man, or Saramon was not that they loved nature, but that they were jelious of nature...they wanted to be God. And if they had been god, they would make a world fo their own...but how many people do you know that can make a world from cells, coem up with the space that goes on forever, or give man the inspration to do art, music, books, movies. if we did not fight world war II because of values of the nattural law--the law that says all men are created eqial, then what are we fighting for? Are we fighting for a passing feeling? A passing earth? We die, but science, logic, art, but most importently the law writen on the heart of man at birth--lives on forever. If we fight for a feeling, if we fight for no truth, how can we be sure that we are true in fighting? Sometimes you have to step back and ask, truely, "what are we fighting for?

Re: Is Mr. Lee a practicing Christian?

I did not say "the occult loves nature, not evil" I said those who are properly practicing witchcraft honor such things.
My point was it is not like all occult groups, and that to think so is generalizing.

As far as the rest of your post, I'm afraid I don't understand how you arrive at your point. "The Wicker Man" is based on something not related to the craft, and Saruman is a fictional character. I'm not arguing, but trying to understand how you make those connection with what I said.

For the sake of staying on topic: I did see Mr. Lee not long ago talking about his belief in one God. I was impressed to hear him say that he did feel there are, in fact, many ways to reach God. That was nice to hear, as some people can get a little rigid and don't see others views as vaild.

Good Lord!  It seems I've

Good Lord!  It seems I've missed out and by almost a decade.  Well...since the audio file doesn't work, can anyone recall just what was said?  What does Sir Christopher (or is it better to call him Mr. Lee???) believe?  It sounds like he may be a Christian then.  And it also sounds like he practices what is preached in the Bible...which includes loving others of different faiths even if you don't agree.

Frankly, I could care less!

Frankly, I could care less! Sir Christopher is very good person and one I admire greatly. As far as I'm concerned, he could be a manic martian with 3 antenae hiding in that lovely head of hair. also, one does not need to be a christian to quote the bible or the kuran or any other religeous text. just sayin...

I could say I don't care, but

I could say I don't care, but then I wouldn't have asked the question (even though I really don't care)... oh... 8-9 years ago now?  haha... I can't believe it was that long ago.

He could indeed be a Martian and I'd still adore his movies!

I don't think his admiration is in question. This topic, from what I understand, is simple curiosity about his way of life.

      I also feel

      I also feel curious.
But I can say that to me Mr. Lee is a very high spirit and came to this world in that  time to make many people happy.

He is a person of integrity and good. Never heard of any scandal or bad thing, where Mr. Lee was involved however, we know he is always willing to help with the next.
So for me, Mr. Lee is a beautiful and enlightened person.

Much peace at heart and we love you Mr. Lee, whatever their religious belief
