THE CAST (so far)..Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
Well, there have been a few more casting announcements on Tim Burton's latest project!
Alice- Mia Wasikowska (Article)
The Mad Hatter- Johnny Depp (Article)
Tweedledee/Tweedledum- Matt Lucas (Article)
Gahh!!! This is getting sooo suspensful! I want to know who's playing my favorite characters! I am almost certain Helena will get a role (she's wonderful), but I'd like to know which one.
And has anyone heard anything else about this film? I know I'm pathetic, but I'd love for Mr. Burton to find something for Mr. Lee in this film. There are sooo many characters!
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Btw, Don B, the film starts out live action, but when "ALICE" falls down the rabbit hole, the movie becomes "motion capture".
So, if Mr. Lee does indeed voice someone, he will not only be voicing, but his face and movements will be digitally recorded and added to the animated character.
This same technique was used in the recent film "Beowulf", as well as "The Polar Express".
Fascinating stuff...and I bet'd be quite an experience as an actor.
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Looks like Helena Bonham Carter has been cast in the movie too! Exciting!

Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Mr. Lee will be in this movie but confidentiality agreements prevent me from disclosing his character. I guess we will have to all wait for an official announcement from Disney but I think you all know what the character will be anyway.

Thanks for those photos!
I figured I'd post some new news (that's weird phrasing) on the "Alice" project, because there has been a lot these past few days:
-Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as The Red Queen (Off with her head!) and in a surprise casting, Anne Hathaway will be playing her sister, The White Queen. In this same article, Mr. Lee is mentioned as being in the cast, but a character is not mentioned.

-Michael Sheen (from the "Underworld" series) has been cast in an unannounced role, much like Mr. Lee.
The Hollywood News - Michael Sheen joins 'Wonderland' and 'Unthinkable'
- Francesca Jaynes has signed on as the choreographer (!) for the film, which STRONGLY hints toward it being, in at least some form, a musical!
EADT - Dancing from The Wolsey to Hollywood
- A Beverley schoolgirl, Eleanor Tomlinson, has been cast as a character created especially for the film, Fiona Chataway. She is Alice's spiteful peer who appears at the beginning of the film before Alice falls down the rabbit hole.

-And finally, Billy-Ray and Nell Burton were both seen on set in victorian era costumes, which probably means that Tim and Helena's children will be making cameos somewhere.

Hope that didn't get too off topic, and I hope you enjoyed all of that.
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Hey everyone! This "Alice In Wonderland" Cast has really rounded out in the past few weeks! Here's hoping that they will announce the full cast soon. Here is the list so far (which is VERY impressive):
Mia Wasikowska as Alice
Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter
Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen
Anne Hathaway as The White King
Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar
Martin Sheen as The Cheshire Cat
Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum
Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts
Eleanor Tomlinson as Fiona Chataway
Tim Pigott-Smith (Unannounced)
It was reported by an extra that Geraldine James and Frances de la Tour have been cast as characters in the real world.
Danny Elfman is writing songs, so maybe he'll also provide a voice (he usually does)
And of course there is Mr. Lee who has an unannounced role.
I'm VERY excited. This is my favorite story and the production is looking to be top knotch.
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Now as the first casting rumors started, I thought we should discuss, too.
Do you think Chris will get a role ? And which character should he play ?
Mia Wasikowska - "Alice"
Johnny Depp - “The Mad Hatter”
Hmm...this is very tough. Many of the characters are quite zany. I can see Mr. Lee playing the King of Hearts...other than that, I'm not quite sure. I am hesitant about Mr. Lee doing a primarily CG character. But that could work too. Who am I to say?
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Awhile back, I reported that a poster at The Tim Burton Collective was mentioning things about "Alice In Wonderland"'s production that sounded absolutely bogus. He was giving us all of this rumored information, supposedly from "Behind The Scenes" without any proof.
One of the things he mentioned was that Mr. Lee would be playing an evil creature called The Jabberwock from Lewis Carroll's poem, and that this creature would be under the command of the wicked Queen of Hearts (the poster said that this story will serve as a sequel to the original "Alice").
As much as I thought that this poster was pulling our legs, me and a couple of members at IMDB have come to realize that the poster has actually been getting information VERY correct, long before it was even released. This may just be coincidence, or they may indeed know what they are talking about:
Here is all of the information that he got right:
-That we were all wrong and that Martin Sheen would not be playing The Cheshire Cat, but the white Rabbit. It was announced by Sheen himself, weeks later, that he wasn't the Cat. Soon, a Wales newspaper was reporting that he was recording lines for The White Rabbit.
-He said Stephen Fry was cast in the film. Weeks later, Stephen Fry is announced as in the film.
-He mentioned the name of a new character called Lord Ascot. Again, weeks later, in a PRIVATE e-mail from Tim Pigott-Smith, I was told that he would be playing a new character in the film called...Lord Ascot.
-He said that the name of Wonderland would be changed to Underland at some point in the story. In an interview with the head animator, he mentions that Wonderland will sometimes be called Underland.
- And finally, he said that the character designs for the Queen featured her with a giant head. Well, a few days ago, Alan Rickman said that they will be digitally increasing the size of Helena Bonham Carter's head for the movie.
Sorry for rambling on. I just find it very suspicious/ interesting. Could it be that this poster is telling the truth? If indeed, that would mean Mr. Lee would be playing the creature that Lewis Carroll calls the Jabberwock. I don't know. This poster could just be VERY lucky with his information.
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Uhg...I do hate the rumor mill. Wikipedia is saying on two different pages (The "Alice" page and Mr. Lee's page) that he was asked to play the role of The Jabberwock...which is still straqnge to me, because the character is only ever alluded to in the books.
I wonder if they are basing their facts off of the ones on The Tim Burton Collective that I have been discussing with people on IMDB?
Though, I DO think it's nice to see that Mr. Lee still has such an amount of admirers that his film roles are so often whispered about.
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Obviously they are taking Liberties with the story. Who's playing the WAlrus?
Well it is Tim Burton. He did the same with Sleepy Hollow to a certain degree. I am excited to see this. The pic i saw of Depp as the Mad Hatter looked really scary and bizarre.
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
I found this article stating that Mr. Lee is to be playing the Jabberwock.
Here is the link:
Christopher Lee
It's in French. Translated with Bablefish, it says:
Christopher Lee would make the “voice” of Jabberwock (or Bandersnatch, I acknowledge that I have a doubt about his denomination), you know the dreadful monster which terrorizes the Country of the Wonders, for the good pleasure of the Red Queen (or of Heart).
I wonder if they just are publishing rumor or if they have a good source?
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
They are often mistaken, but IMDB has Mr. Lee listed as The Jabberwock on the "Alice In Wonderland" page.

Thank You Josh, It will be interesting to see if this is accurate! Can't wait to see this film.
Cheers,
Helen
Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Hi Everyone, There is a nice article and some really interesting visuals from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. The article mentions (Sir) Christopher Lee as the Jabberwocky; it looks to be a very interesting film.

Re: Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland
Oooh....goody! I started a thread like this awhile back! (Great minds think alike I guess ^_^)
I think he would make a great Caterpillar...but I REALLY would love to see him play The Mock Turtle or The Gryphon (so he has a chance to sing
)
And btw...I DEF. think Tim will cast him. They have become quite close (Mr. Lee just recoreded an audio reading of one of his poems for the NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS DVD release). Plus...after what happened to his role is SWEENEY TODD...
