I believe that Christopher Lee should be knighted by the Queen. He is truly a living legend in film and he has honorably served his country in WWII. There is no person who deserves such an honor than Christopher Lee.

Re: Knighted

By the way, I am not British so I do not know the Knighting procedures I just think Mr. Lee is one of the greatest actors ever and deserves this recognition for his contribution to the entertainment industry just like Paul McCartney, Ian McKellan, Elton John and other British entertainers.

Re: Knighted

Brendan, I think we all feel the same way.

I have looked into the process of knighthood. It is pretty straightforward, but unfortunately there are some very difficult aspects. Sad

Cheers, Wink

Re: Knighted

I couldn't agree more, a knighthood is well over-due. My understanding is that the PM needs to recommend this to the Queen. But I'm sure that we can do a little persuading collectively. . .

Re: Knighted

Is there a way we could write to the Prime Minister? I am not British so I am not sure if my letter would be of any good. Maybe it would. When you look at the amazing career of Christopher Lee. He is truly one of the greatest literary actors of the silver screen. His career is extraordinary. From Dracula to Count Dooku. His work in work on Rhaspody to Lord of the Rings. His reading of Serlock Holmes is amazing. There is none more worthy! Plus, he served in WWII!! I am not going to question other entertainers but Mr. Lee should be give that honor because he deserves it! I am going to look into it...Its our chance to give back to Mr. Lee.

Re: Knighted

I definatley agree...Mr Lee should be knighted...Sir Christopher Lee has such a good ring to it. And what angers me most is when people such as Kelly Holmes need only do one great thing and they become knighted.
Christopher Lee has done so much...and is still going strong at 83 years of age. After serving in WW2 and holding the world record for most creditted films...and winning top actor of 2005 I think it is more than justified to suggest its about time he was knighted

I say...we contact her majesty and request he be knighted. A gift from us to you Mr Lee *bows*

Re: Knighted

I have also just sent a message to Mr Blair. Thanks for the link Breen. The more people we get to message Mr Blair the more likely he is to take notice which we all no doubt want. So please everyone if you want so see the word "Sir" before Christopher Lee's name then please message Mr Blair. And also if he does get knighted then it may convince him to stay in the acting business (which apparently he is considering of quitting as he thinks that talent is not rewarded anymore) so please please please message Mr Blair

Re: Knighted

Hi Everyone!

If I had my own way, I would knight Mr. Lee. It would be an honor but I can't. If wondering, I myself am a descent of a King of England but he's dead. King Henry VIII, I am from his royal family. If I had that power, would you all be willing to let me? I am just curious, thanks.

Thanks,
Amber

Re: Knighted

Hi everyone,

I have e-mail the Prime Minister and he should listen. If not, Mr. Lee I will knight you myself if I would have the chance. It would be a promise. Sorry; I about this, I am just upset that they are ignoring him. So, are they waiting to knight him after something awful happens to him, I just don't want that to happen. What will all of us fans do? Help us to decide, what to do with this situation. If I don't here nothing about this from her Prime Minister. Alright all fans!!!!!! JUST LET ME KNOW!!! These people should not ignore him because he is up there in age but I believe that he has the right to knighted. I hope that they will do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Amber

Re: Knighted

There is already more time I also sent an e-mail to the First Minister and, with certainty, as all the other fans, I also received another e-mail of reception confirmation. I think that many and many emails must have arrived to the First Minister with the same request. It is really a very big lack that this recognition to Mr. Lee still has not happened.

Re: Knighted

I have to get back to the Prime Minister. It seems that I might get something, who knows. I also told him that I am royal as well. Well when I do get a answer, I will let everyone know what he said, okay. I have a feeling that it is going to take alot more than e-mail to this guy to get his attention. Maybe I can get a hold of my President of the United States. He might help.

Thanks,
Amber

I agree that Mr Lee should be knighted but lets keep it on a serious level here.
If we are going to send letters to the Queen and Tony Blair please keep a serious and respectful tone and dignity towards them. They wont read them if you write words of anger. I'm not accusing anyone but just saying that we should keep that in mind.

Hello everyone,

The e-mail I wrote back to the Prime Minister it gone down to the dogs. I guess that these jerks will not listen. I guess that these people are going to give up on him and that ain't fair!!!! Its like my great-grandfather who was a great guy who saved a battleship from sinking. The ship was called the USS Pennslyvania. They gave him nothing and he lived in the US. Come on people, what's going to take?

We all would like to see Mr. Lee get an O.B.E. but it is more complicated than you can imagine, it has been discussed at length over the years on this site, and explained why it is almost impossible. Mr. Lee has been awarded a C.B.E if you did not know and is quite an honour. We were all thrilled to bits when we heard.

Like Joakim said

"I agree that Mr Lee should be knighted but lets keep it on a serious level here.

And that includes Calling Mr. Lee "Chris"

A little respect goes a long way.

Cheers
Colin.

Hello everyone,

Surely you meant to type K.B.E., Colin. An O.B.E. is actually a lesser honour than a C.B.E., but I'm sure it was just a typo on your part.

I would really like Mr Lee to be honoured with a knighthood, because he really deserves it, even if you put to one side his acting work. He is actively involved with charitable organisations, such as UNICEF, Children in Need, St John's, etc. He fought in World War II and was decorated by several countries. He subsequently participated in the post-war trials. These things together with his long and distinguished acting career are more than reason enough for Mr Lee to be awarded the knighthood. Unfortunately, the honours system is a rather mysterious and odd process, and some of the recent selections for the K.B.E. beggar belief.

I would hasten to agree with what has been said by Colin and Joakim about writing all of these requests and letters in a courteous manner. Venting one's spleen about the injustice (perceived or otherwise) of the situation is unlikely to be conducive to a successful result. Always bear in mind that you are writing to members of high office, and that you are petitioning for something. If you ask nicely, you are more likely to get what you ask for than if you demand it, especially if you are disrespectful towards the people you are writing to.

Anyway, that being said, I wish you every success and all the luck in the world, naturally. I hope that the establishment will come to its sense and realise that there is a great gentleman who highly deserves to receive this honour. Take care:

Warmest regards,

Andrés

Yes, Colin, Mr Lee was awarded the C.B.E., but that's not what I'm referring to.

I'm talking about the sentence where you write "We all would like to see Mr. Lee get an O.B.E. but it is more complicated than you can imagine, it has been discussed at length over the years on this site, and explained why it is almost impossible." [my bold] Surely you meant "We all would like to see Mr. Lee get a K.B.E." (O.B.E. = Officer of the Order of the British Empire; K.B.E. = Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

Anyway, that's the one I was picking up on. Please don't take a swipe at me with the Queen's sword! :fight:

Warmest regards,

Andrés Wink

Re: Knighted

Greetings,
Last year I posted this thread so people would write to encourage the powers that be to Knight Christopher Lee. I felt his service to his country and the world during WWII and being one of the most respected and revered actors today warrented this great honor. I am not British and I do not understand the process. It baffles me that Mick Jaggar and Elton are knighted and Mr. Lee is not. Someone wrote that it is very complicated but it seems more political than complicated.

Mr. Lee. is a living Legend and a treasure. I would like for him to recieve this honor because he represents his country well and he deserves it! More so then many other entertainers who have recieved it in the past. God Bless Him!!!

Cheers
Brendan

Greetings To All,

I feel the same way about Mr. Lee. He should have the right to be knighted. He should be knighted but these other people who have not been acting as long as Mr. Lee has. They should be knighted after these elder actors.

Thanks,
Amber

I have just noticed in the C Lee on TV section, under "Exclusive".... his name has been preceded by "Sir". I do hope this is a Freudian slip, and that we will have a Lord and Lady Lee, very soon.

Here in the USA, we don't give a damn as to what the Queen does or doesn't do..... Here in the states, The Queen is nondescript, etc..... Cheerio.....

Re: Knighted

I agree whole-heartedly! I've said for years (as have all my family, also die-hard Mr Lee fans) that it's disgraceful he has been passed over for knighthood. It's especially insulting since, as someone has said on here earlier, Mr Lee served his country loyally during the second world war and the state confers honorary knighthoods on non-Brits (some deserving, some not).

As regards the Prime Minister having to reccommend people; I'm fairly certain Her MAjesty is allowed to choose people herself as well if she wishes. I could be wrong but I recall that Sir Norman Wisdom's knighthood was her idea as she was a big fan of his so perhaps we should be writing to her as well as Mr Brown?

If politians just got of the way, the Queen should have the power to do something but she doesn't. I found out by my college professor that parliment have all the power!! She needs to knight him, like NOW!!!! It will be totally awesome if she knighted him on his birthday. I do hope that all of this will work out in the end. Mr. Lee deserves this more than any younger generation in acting.

Re: Knighted

Yes, parliament do have all the law-making power but before any law is passed she has to sign it and if she disagrees they can't do anything so she does have a little power and I do think it'll be worth us contacting her about Mr Lee's knighthood as well as the prime minister.
