Lee hate Dracula?

I was wondering this. You never see Lee being very obliging to his Dracula character. He's done tons of stuff, great stuff, but I always get the impression that he bites the hand that fed him for years.

Don't mean that in a negative way, but he places his emphasis on other projects and appears to negate the powerful character that made his stake.

Anybody else feel this way? It always bothers me. I grew up on those monster films and they were my Saturday afternoon babysitters when a kid. I loved them and I so wish he did too.

Don't let it bother you. I can't speak for Mr. Lee, so the following are strictly my thoughts.
But, from what I have learned and observed about him. I don't believe Mr. Lee "hates" the Dracula character.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Mr. Lee has given wonderful performances/characterizations in so many other subjects (Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, Henry Baskerville, Lord Summerisle, Jinnah, Saruman, etc), and yet the Dracula characterization is the only one that some people dwell on.
Though Mr. Lee knows his past, I think he may be more inclined to live in the present and the future. I don't think he denies his Dracula role (or would want to), He is just so much more than that.

Think about it this way, how would you feel if something you did 10 years ago was the only thing people ever talked about. Wouldn't you want to be remembered for what you did yesterday or maybe a year ago?

I hope I haven't offended anyone with my response, that is not my intent. Shock
Good question. It's always good to question. Have a great day. Cheers,

In a way,I kind of "DON"T BLAME" Christopher Lee for hating Dracula, after all---for a long time, people, especially the "media" could not see him doing anything else. But at the same time,as he mentions in an interview printed in "Fangoria",issue228,page72---QUOTE:"If it was just for horror films, yes,I would find it frustrating, but it isn't,no matter what you may read or what you may hear. That is not the case. Otherwise, I wouldn't still be working, would I? People remember me for the parts I've played;people come up and talk to me and say,"I enjoy your movies." Sometimes they say Dracula;sometimes they talk about The Man With the Golden Gun;sometimes they talk about Musketeers;sometimes they talk about The Wicker Man;sometimes they talk about something you wouldn't think they'd even seen. The important thing is that I am known to and recognized by every generation, from mine right down to very young people. That's TV and video, of course. But what more could you ask? That's what it's all about."
From what I've seen on the CLWeb,even from the "archived posts"---"Admin" does not want "anyone " to mention Dracula. Personally, NO MATTER WHAT ROLE Christopher Lee "plays":Dracula, Scaramanga,Count Dooku, I could go on and on-----then I want to see him and WILL SPEND MY "HARD-EARNED MONEY" on----be it a movie at my local moviehouse(I'm waiting on"Star Wars---Revenge of the Sith!!!!),a video rental from the local video store(I don't have a DVD player,yet---so they are out for the present)or a video from my collection, I want to see him. But,UNFORTUNATLY,in a LOT of people's minds,he will always be "Count Dracula"---and that is sad.

Re: Lee hate Dracula?

Out of curiosity and just for my edification ( It would be nice to avoid a faux pas, should the occasion ever arise) Smile

Do you drink the typical glass of blood:
From a water glass, whiskey glass, wine glass, or brandy snifter?
On the rocks or straight up?
Chilled, Room temp, or body (live) temp?

Or is it just a matter of personal "taste"

Cheers! Wink

I have no problems with people discussing the movies but Draculation I do have a very serious problem with. I don't believe for a second that the person who started the thread intended for anything other than to start a flame war.

This thread is now closed.
