This is being reported as fact all over the net.Can it be confirmed or are they just rumours ?
Matt, I agree...That poster is popping up all over the web, I had 16 searches that popped up with Mr. Lee in Sweeney Todd....Some sites are reporting that he is playing a 'ghost' or someone named Fogg...I don't know the story so I don't know about this....
There is even someone who says that they were an extra last year at Pinewood studios and that a makeup artist told them that Mr. Lee had been in for a 'Makeup' test.....
Facts or Rumours...They are abounding right now....
Always Follow Your Hearts Desire
Helen and Matt, we will twist our fingers for this news to be reality...
I also found that Mr. Lee would represent the character Fogg. But I don't know anything of the history.

For a rumor to be true. It's not enough that he is in a poster or that the rumor appears in 200-300 places because there are agreements that need to be signed and deals sometimes are completed and sometimes they are not. There are just too many factors involved.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
If you go back a few years, Mr. Lee was very strongly rumored to appear in Harry Potter, in that case the news came out straight from Warner Bros executives and I made the mistake of posting that news, thinking it was a sure thing. We all know what happen afterwards, a different actor got casted. Maybe the executives did not say it, maybe it was the tea boy passing as a Warner official, maybe he was and they changed their minds, maybe Mr. Lee's agent did not complete negotiations and a thousand maybes more. Fact is we will never know why he was even rumored. That rumor at the time, was perhaps ever stronger . Look at Mayday now called Cowboys for Christ, every year they change the title and they are sure that they will film it in the Summer. This year, same story. Look at the Last Unicorn, it ended up being withdrawn all together. Yes, Sweeney Todd is being made and some actors have been confirmed, Mr. Lee has yet to be confirmed and as they say, it takes two to Tango. He would love to be, of course, but there are many, many factors for that to happen and there is also something else called confidentiality agreements. If he has said nothing, it is for a reason.
With Sweeney Todd, an official announcement will be made very soon, if he is indeed in the movie but it will be done with the persimmion from the studio and Mr. Lee's permission. They are the two people that can say for certain, no one else and until now, at least Mr. Lee has not confirmed it. Many movies get negotiated, look like sure things and then they don't happen and I can name you at least 20 movies that Mr. Lee was going to appear in and he never did because the deals failed through. Until they both say that he will be in the movie, it remains a rumor. As far as the character, again a rumor. He may, he may not play Fogg, Ghost or whomever they think he could play, these are nothing but guesses, which could end up being true or untrue. At one time, he was rumored to play the Judge, it never happened. He may play a different character or nobody. The fact is, it is not official yet. If you find the studio confirming it, then it is 50% official, the other 50% needs to come from Mr. Lee.
If you look at the IMDB, the studio has yet to confirm it. It would be crazy for Mr. Lee to confirm it himself until the studio says so.
Sorry if I sound like a pain and I repeat myself. I have asked Mr. Lee many times and was not given an answer and I caught my fingers in the doors far too many times announcing rumors. Last one was Bambi II from Disney. Someone ask him at Heathrow as it was a sure thing, you should have seen Mr. Lee's face of surprise because it was news to him.
As from 10pm today, Mr. Lee still would not say. Maybe he says "yes" or maybe "no" in 10 minutes or in 2 hours or on Sunday but I repeat for now, it is a rumor. If he would have said "no" the rumor would have ended but he isn't able to say. As far as the number of sites that say so, most are simply copy and paste material they found somewhere else, it doesn't matter if they are factual or not.
Don't you think that if it was 100% confirmed, Mr. Lee would have made an announcement at the time. He has done dozens and dozens of interviews, not even the press bothered to ask him or even mention it because they did not have conclusive information.
I have been guilty of posting many rumors on this website myself and I understand that with the excitement and wishful thinking is always difficult to hold back but through the years, I have learnt that rumors only hurt Mr. Lee because the first thing that happens until things are certain or in negotiation, are confidentiality agreements. He has to keep excusing himself saying "I said nothing". That means that until it has been signed and sealed, he is not allowed to even talk about it.
If I was to say that Mr. Lee will be playing Saruman again, which is indeed possible and it is currently in negotiation and later doesn't happen, I would look like a right fool. If someone reads that phrase, they'll start a rumor, that rumor will travel and then people become certain that it is true. It would probably grow, people then will put two and two together and come with five. The facts however, is that he may or may not and there are too many people that have to say "yes" at the end and they can also change their minds at anytime. Mr. Lee can also change his mind, he may be sick, he might not able to play the part, he may be offered something bigger, filming dates may clash with agreements that are signed and sealed and many, many more things that could go wrong.
Don Quixote. Mr. Lee wants to play it and the studio wants to go ahead but, that is not enough. Pre-production started a long time ago and there are people working on it. Mr. Lee has done some small work for it, mainly rehearsals but you could also call it a rumor because if it then does not happen, that is all is going to be.
Like you, I hope that the rumors are true and I am waiting to find out but from Mr. Lee who ultimatly is the only person that will be able to say for sure.
Juan, Thank You for your reply.
We don't mean to put you in an untenable position and appreciate the difficulties that you face attempting to differentiate between rumours and facts for us.
There are of course many films that we would love to see Mr. Lee in, and we know that there are those that Mr. Lee himself would love to participate in.
It is very difficult sometimes with so much information in cyberspace, and wanting confirmation as to the accuracy of the information. Which is why I deeply appreciate this site. I sincerely hope you can forgive us for questioning Mr. Lee's participation in Sweeney Todd....
We keep our fingers crossed and will wait the final outcome, when the time is appropriate and everything confirmed (one way or the other).
Again Thank You for taking the time to address this issue, as we know how time consuming addressing this was, and that you are extremely busy.
With Best Wishes and Warmest Regards,
Many thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed explanation, Juan. You're perfectly right, of course! A rumour is a rumour is a rumour. I think most people will understand that with any project there are never 100% guarantees, as you say. Many things can happen - "variables" I think is the word. Even a proposal which has a firm foundation in reality may not end up actually happening in the end. For example, Mr Lee was scheduled to appear at the Barbican Centre for a Live Concert with conductor Valery Gergiev in 2005, but unfortunately illness prevented him from being there. That was something beyond anyone's control.
I am always wary about things I read or hear, especially from unofficial sources, because there is a lot of misinformation about. In this respect, I subscribe to my paternal grandfather's view, who was rather fond of saying "¡No te creas nada de lo que te cuenten, y de lo que veas, sólo la mitad!" Or as Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: "'the time will arrive when you will learn to judge for yourself of what is going on in the world, without trusting to the gossip of others. Believe nothing you hear, and only one-half that you see.'" [bold added]. Sound advice, I think.
Anyway, thanks again Juan for your reply. I shall keep my fingers crossed for Mr Lee that a) he will be asked whether or not he would like to be in Sweeney Todd, b) he will find the part and surrounding conditions good enough to accept, and c) that it will be made with Mr Lee's participation. Whatever happens, I wish the project every success, and I look forward to seeing the film if and when it finally gets released. Take care everyone:
Not at all Helen, forums are for posting rumors. In fact, the whole internet is full of rumours.
Acording to that article Tolkien was the last person to write about the origins of humanity.
When I post, sometimes I sound as if I am angry or something. I went on and on and on, because, I am in a very hyperactive mode and when I start typing I get carried away. So I better go to bed soon or I will repeat the same things a million times. My fingers are working much faster than my brain.
So to resume, for now it is a rumor and by Sunday evening at the latest, you will find out from Mr. Lee if he is or he is not in the movie. Your guess is as good as mine.
So what exactly are you trying to say Juan ?............... Only kidding , I quite understand, thanks for the reply and I'll keep my fingers crossed.
It's ok Juan. You were just giving examples. I hope he will be in it. After all it's Tim Burton. The internet is a endless sea of rumors. But at this website we always find out the truth in the end.
Indeed Joakim! Indeed!
Thank You Juan.......I understand...I didn't think you were 'angry' (just possibly a bit frustrated;) ). Please know that Your time and Effort is so deeply appreciated.
And as Matt says, we will wait with fingers crossed!
Best Wishes and Warmest Regards,
Also Thanks for the link....Interesting that.....
There you have it, Mr. Lee has confirmed it now. It's not a rumour anymore.
His character, has yet to be confirmed.
Great stuff Juan. Whatever the role it'll be wonderful to see him up on the big screen in a new Tim Burton movie. Oh and Johny Depp of course :top:
Great. It will be the third time he will be working with Johnny and Tim. Looking forward to it.
This is excellent news!! I'm delighted that Mr Lee will be working with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp again! I hope he is given the opportunity of singing as well! :flute:Fabulous! Thank you very much indeed for letting us know, Juan:
Thank You Juan for the Great News! Will be looking forward to the film coming out! It is wonderful that Mr. Lee will be working again with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp....Congratulations Mr. Lee! Since this is a musical...Then we will have another opportunity to listen to Mr. Lee's vocal talent....along with the rest of the cast!
I hope he is given the opportunity of singing as well
Read the front page, he doesn't speak a single line.
I am arriving now to the place and me have such great news...
As it was previously said: we waited he sings, but, the most important is to see him again. Him representing this or that character, it doesn't matter, he will make it Great!.
Fantastic! I'm very glad it's a singing role! Thanks, Juan!
Yes, another great preformance from Mr. Lee! And a singing role?! It must be a dream come true, not just for him, but for me and everyone here on CLW! I can't wait to see the film. I like Tim Burton films and Johnny Depp is as brilliant as ever. Now with Mr. Lee joining them, again, it should prove to be a hit! I simply can't wait!

:marchmellTo see and to hear Mr. Lee sing is " everything of good." Also to appreciate Johnny Deep (today my 2nd favorite actor - the 1st I don't need to say who is), that is the maximum., to have them together again.
