Now that the new Star Wars movie The Clone Wars has been announced (Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)), I was wondering if anyone knows if Lucasfilm contacted Christopher Lee about voicing Count Dooku? I know Corey Burton did the voice for the TV series and the video games (couldn't hold a candle to CL's voice though) but I thought they might ask him back for another big-screen outing. Just thought I'd ask if anyone knew anything.

P.S. Off-topic, but I came across this interesting nugget in the Rumours section on Ian McKellen's official website:

Rumour, 12 April 2003: "i heard that Ian and Christoper (saruman) got in to a fight in public, in london and almost killed each other. plz tell me this isnt true"

[B][B][=Book Antiqua]Fact: "Wherever The Fellowship of the Ring is screened, Gandalf and Saruman fight. Elsewhere Christopher Lee and I are best of pacific friends." [I]

I wondered the same thing so I did some research. Unfortunatly for us Corey Burton has been cast as Count Dooku in the upcoming Clone Wars movie. However the tv show that will follow the movie hasn't announced the voice of Dooku yet so there is still some hope.

Aw dangit. I know CL and Corey Burton are probably friends, seeing as they worked together on Kingdom Hearts II, but his voicework is nowhere near as good as Mr Lee's. Ah well, I suppose Mr Lee had better projects to do.

Thanks for the info Jason Smile

Burton has a fine voice . but Mr Lees is instanly recognizable. I'm sure Mr. lee had a full schedule which prevented him fron doing the role.

Mr. Lee has recorded the voice of Count Dooku for this movie a couple of months ago.

It was however, the first time he had to lip synch to a character because they had produced the animation before recording his voice.

Re: New Star Wars Movie

That's great news Juan. Having made the character so memorable in the live action movie, it would have been a shame not to have had his instantly recognisable voice over the animated Count Dooku.

Re: New Star Wars Movie

WOW okay it's been a while since I checked back on this thread. That IS great news indeed, thanks Juan. And you're right Steve - I couldn't imagine anyone else voicing him, especially since he was given way too little screen time in the last film.

Christopher Lee returning to Star Wars AND potentially Lord of the Rings? Now he's just spoiling us Smile

I don't think I've been happier to be proven wrong in my entire life...thank you Juan for proving my research wrong.

Re: New Star Wars Movie

The new trailer for "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is out. Little dialogue, lots of action. But the recognisible voice of Mr. Lee really stands out.

One webeditor, who obviously doesn't know what we know, wrote somewhere that the "Christopher Lee impersonator"in the trailer sounds suprinsingly close to the original.. Wink

Juan, this is wonderful! I have a screen capture of "our" Count on my desktop and can't wait to see (and hear) him once again. Thanks!

Thanks Steve.

It is definetly and without question Mr. Lee's voice on the trailer. It is imposible for anyone else to sound like that.

Re: New Star Wars Movie

Wow I'm so glad I asked this question. Thanks for the trailer link Steve. Looks like Count Dooku will be the villain of the piece this time - none of that General Grievous nonsense. About time the character got used properly too. Am really looking forward to it Smile

Re: New Star Wars Movie

I am glad to see Mr. Lee reprising his role as one of the best Star Wars villains in some form. I have to wonder though, is Mr. Lee voicing Dooku in the television series that follows the Clone Wars feature or will Corey Burton be taking over the role once again?

star wars movie

I was reading an article on the animated clones wars film, and the article mentioned somethuing very interesting. They called Mr. Lee, Christopher "Ming Sheung" Lee.

Does anyone know what that is about?

I never paid any attention to the recent Star Wars films, etc....... I saw the first THREE films in the 1970's and early 80's; that was enough for me.... I'll take the original actors all the way..... I'm not big on Sci-Fi... Cheers....

Don't see the animated "The Clone Wars" movie. Whew. I found myself fast forwarding thru it. I was totally bored with it, and the storyline. The animation was pretty cool, but other than that the movie falls very flat.
