I have City of the Dead under it's alternate title Horror Hotel, it is a properly creepy film, and very enjoyable.
I'd have to go with The Skull, and Dr. Terror's house of Horrors. I also believe The Creeping Flesh is Amicus as well.
I have city of the Dead, although I have not seen it yet I cannot recall ever seeing the film so I will have to make a point of watching it. Kaitlin
City Of The Dead (Horror Hotel) is by far the most atmospheric, and one I find quite groundbreaking in it's despatching of the main character, quite iconoclastic for the genre back then, I can think of only Hitchcock's "Psycho" being of the same vintage.
For sheer fun, as well as a wonderfully sceptical Christopher Lee performance "Dr Terror's House Of Horrors" not only plays as the best Amicus with both Christopher and Peter Cushing, it probably rates as the finest with regards to the company's "anthology" pictures.

I'd have to go with I monster although I really like the Skull both ofcourse with Mr Cushing. Whom I also love dearly Kaitlin
I liked him in The House That Dripped Blood.
I didn't also see all the mentioned films, unhappily.
For me I, Monster is a work excels. People! That interpretation of the Mr. Lee is a fantastic thing. Me looking at the leaning film: " As it can be so perfect this actor? ". Peter Cushing there acted little, it was different from as he see him.
It was mentioned "Dracula, father and son." This is favorite Dracula film mine. Or what is in second place, after Horror of Dracula/1958. Dracula - Father is amused. I am not comedy fan, but when Mr. Lee does, he says or he acts funny; it is graced even!
Speaking in that, I would adore to see " Safari 3000."

Have not been fortunate enough to see all of the listed movies, but of the ones seen so far, it would have to be I, Monster. Really good slant on the traditional Dr Jekyll story line and Mr Lee was just the perfect choice for the role.

'I Monster' is a bit of a mess, while Mr Lee hardly seems to be in 'City Of The Dead' or 'The Skull', while 'Scream And Scream Again'seems more like an AIP movieto me,so great as they are, I'll skip them.
That just leaves 'The House That Dripped Blood' and 'Dr Terror'. Both of them wonderfull movies which I re-watched last week on DVD. Christopher Lee is very memorable in 'House', playing a victim for a change, but I voted for 'Dr Terror' as his not only was his episode one of the strongest, but also because he pops up throughout the movie.
I got a pretty good copy off an internet site try Midnight1video or videoscreams im not sure of exact URL.... but ive been happy with their tapes in the past
neither is on dvd :mad: i haven't seen either i would like to though and i hope they play it on tv soon so i can finally see them.

I have starship Invasions, but on pal, as for I monster I have seen it on VHS, old ones, but not on DVD, but it could be out there.

About I, Monster again. The video I have is home-taped, where I stayed up until about 2AM just to edit out the commercials as the movie went along. Does anyone know if I, Monster has ever come out on VHS video tape?(I cannot play PAL format, though.) It would be a great help. The same for Starship Invasions.
Dr Terror's House of Horrors was the finest of the Amicus films, in my humble opinion. It was appropriately creepy, suspenseful and featured Mr. Lee at his HORRORIFIC best :1devil:
I Monster is a very underated performance acting wise when compared to his other films. He rised above the chaos of the way the director and Producer tried to film it
the more reviews i hear about I, Monster the more I want to see it. does anyone know of any plans for it to be released on dvd as of yet? the only scenes i've seen from it are from the many faces of christopher lee which i may have already stated but don't remember.
A number of other things stick in my mind about I, Monster. One is Peter Cushing typing away on an ancient prototype of a typewriter. The sets were as magnificent as the acting, especially the Victorian lace curtains. And the one expression that became indelible for me was the one Mr. Lee effected when determining whom he was going to take revenge against, as he spoke the name, "Utterson...." Just totally amazing. While I did enjoy Mr. Lee in Dr. Terror's in his portrayal of an art critic, I think it was an all-encompassing talent that made his character unforgettable in I, Monster.
i was never good at finding Easter eggs on dvd's ones that are really easy to find is the beatles yellow submarine an kevin smith's Mallrats just to name a couple.
Stimpy go back to old threads last year you should find a thread on Devil a daughter Easter Egg. If you cant find it I will try and help you figure it out. It was a couple of months ago i forget how we did it. The thread was back in Oct or Nov in other films section I think

I like every aspect of I, Monster everything from Mr. Lee's excellent acting to the sets and props used. The changes he goes through physically with the Jekyll/Hyde character without make-up is remarkable. And at times, he can elicit great pity from the viewer with the emotional expressions on his face.
where is the easter egg? i'm not to good at actully finding them.

My second favorite Amicus movie would be Dr. Terror's House of Horrors. That was a very good movie, compared to what gory horror movies are made these days.
Yeah Stimpy your in for a treat with Devil a Daughter one of my all time faves wait and see Christophers acting in the delivery scene. Its awesome!!I couldnt wait for that DVD. Theres a great Easter Egg on it with an interview with Christophers long time stunt man Eddie Powell its really funny make sure to check it out.I agree dracula and Son was good... but not an Amicus production
at the time of my voting the order is similar to how I feel about the mentioned films but I would have to put City of the Dead over I monster... although, for a Christopher Lee performance stand point I monster would be the best. Personally i like Horror Hotel? City of the Dead as a better all around movie. I thought both Dr. Terrors and the House that Dripped blood are both great films with great acting by Christopher but Horror Hotel and I monster are above those two in my eyes. Scream and Scream again?? I still get headaches trying to figure out that film I hope its because of bad editing because with the big 3 it should have been so much better
I agree that THE SKULL is a true classic they don't make films like t hat anymore. to bad too. and they don't have teams like Cushing and Lee anymore too bad too. one more thing how was
TO THE DEVIL-A DAUGHTER? I just bought it on dvd last week and haven't had a chance to watch it yet.one movie which isn't on
the list is Dracula and son now that's a funny movie which was
also badly dubbed. it's been awhile since i saw that but is it Mr. Lee's voice i can't remember if it is or not.
My vote went to The House that Dripped Blood. Mr. Lee's segment Sweets to the Sweet is a minor triumph. Some nice misdirection and great performances from Mr. Lee and the precocious Chloe Franks make this a personal fave.
The Jon Pertwee and Ingrid Pitt vampire romp segment The Cloak is just plain fun from start to finish. Cute Dracula throwaway reference to that 'other fellow' as well. Sure the late Jon Pertwee mugs unrepentantly at the camera, but it somehow seems fitting in this lightweight story.
Hell, now that I think about it, I'm pretty partial to the opening story, Method for Murder, as well. Nobody did 'nervous fear' quite as well as Denholm Elliott (he brought a similar level of angst to his turn in Hammer's To the Devil a Daughter as well. I really miss that man, as he could add quality to just about any film).
Sadly, the weakest link in this film, for me at any rate, is the Waxworks segment with Peter Cushing and Joss Ackland. For some reason I find it a pretty tiresome and lackluster segment, that drags down the pace of the entire film. The poor wax head prop doesn't help matters much either. While I love both actors enormously, it just didn't work for me. Perhaps the sadness and loss experienced by Cushing's character is just a tad too close to what Cushing's immediate real-life future held (the rapidly approaching death of his wife Helen) to give me much pleasure in the piece.
Looking forward to this on DVD at some point. It deserves a clean print.

I'm not going to vote, considering I've only seen Dr.Terror's House of Horrors. And, even though that film was OK, it wasn't what I would call a particular favourite of mine. It's a pretty good film - I'm just not keen on it.
I read somewhere on dvd drive-in to be exact that not i'm not sure if this is true or not. but they said that The house that dripped blood is coming out on dvd in august of 2003! for that I can't wait cause i've been wanting to see that for years! it's i think gnna have commentary but don't quote me on that i'm not sure if that is true or not.
I voted for House of Horrors. It is a mostly satisfying anthology. Peter Cushing is great plus the addition of CL and Donald Sutherland.
It was a hard choice because I also enjoy The Skull very much.
The only film on the list I haven't seen is The House that Dripped Blood. So I can't speak of it. But the rest are also very good except Scream and Scream Again. What a terrible mismatch of a film. I had to force myself to finish watching it. What a waste of three talented great actors.
The Skull always tripped me out. I haven't seen it in years and don't have it to view in ANY format. ( yep.. I still use my betamax)
I just loved the surreal atmostphere. kinda artsy!

I vote for "The Skull", although any movie with Christopher Lee in it is worth watching over and over again. I haven't seen it in a while, but just seeing the name gave me goosebumps.
They don't make horror like that anymore.
If a person can vote for a movie he/she hasn't seen yet, my vote would go to "I, Monster". Of course, now that i have my trusty DVD player, that may no longer be a problem.
Now, all I need to do is find the time for a side-trip to my local BlockBuster...

Wow, I'm shocked that The House that Dripped Blood received only two votes aside from mine! That's my favorite Amicus film (with Mr. Lee in it) by far, with The Skull coming in second.
I liked the Skull movie because that movie was really creepy.
My vote went for The Skull on account of its eerie, surreal, nightmare quality. Restrained horror at its best!

I just watched City of the dead last night which is a great very low budget movie. i haven't watched that film for awhile i have it on dvd as horror hotel but to me it's City of the dead. only complaint is that Mr. Lee isn't in longer his character is useless in the movie. it's a great movie but he was hardly in it. anywys i never saw I, Monster only scenes from it an i think that is spelt wrong. all i saw of it so far was what was shown on THE MANY FACES OF CHRISTOPHER LEE which is great if u are a LEE fan. well as for City of the dead it's like the 2 towers a great movie least i think so anywys but Mr. Lee should have had a bigger part in that also.
i always loved the wondefully creepy atmosphere of "City of the dead", but dr. Terror's house of horrors still remains one of my favourite.
I recently purchased an import italian DVD release of that filmon Ebay, and it made me appreciate it more, since it was the first time i could watch it in all it's wide screen splendor.

I do like 'The Skull,' not seen it for a while, will have to dig it out and watch it again.
The same with 'Dr Terror's House of Horror's', and 'I Monster'.

scream and scream again is an ok movie not written well. it worked have worked better had it been just one complete story and to 2 story it's written very sloppy. it's an highly unusal film an peter cushing should have been in it longer than he was. i picked dr. terror's house of horrors's the skull was good too. but i haven't seen all the movies in the poll yet some i have an some i haven't.
All very fine films but my vote went to Dr Terrors.
Despite some very dodgy supporting performances (Example..Roy Castle), this is a cracking little picture and Peter Cushing is memorable in the title role.
One of the best examples of the Amicus knack of making excellent compendium horror movies.
Thats not fair, they are all good films.
Still I voted for the one that I watched last night.
Scream and Scream again.
And if I had been watching one of the orthers I would of voted for that one
